Cycling & MTB in Val Pusteria

Hiking in the Puster Valley - South Tyrol

Out and about on two wheels...

It's a beautiful summer day. A few sparse clouds float in a brilliant blue sky. While trekkers don their boots in answer to the irresistible call of the mountains, you mount your bike and start pedalling.

It is time to discover this region you have chosen for your cycling holidays: on the flat and up and downhill, and even in the company of all your family, you can live your own adventure on a mountain bike or city bike in Val Pusteria. And by the way, if you feel like cooling off after a nice ride, take a dip in the "Baggalocke" natural swimming pond in Gais.

With a MTB in Pusteria...

Val Pusteria cycle path – Pusterbike

The cycle path in Val Pusteria extends for a total of 105 km from Rio Pusteria to Lienz in East Tyrol. It is particularly suitable for people who cycle occasionally, but also for families.
The cycle path is divided into several stages:

Cycle path from Brunico to Campo Tures

It starts in Brunico, but you can conveniently access it at any point along the way, for example from our hotel. Go in the direction of "Baggalocke" (the free swimming pond at Gais - follow the signs), pass the industrial area and continue to Villa Ottone. Along the path you will find boards with interesting information on the habitat and the wetlands. After Villa Ottone, continue towards Caminata and from there to Campo Tures. You can go as far as Castel Tures or the beautiful waterfalls of Riva, and enjoy an ice cream at the nearby bar.

Cycle from Brunico to San Candido

From Brunico, cycle to Perca, Valdaora, Monguelfo, Villabassa and Dobbiaco and then to San Candido. If you wish to avoid the worst of the climb, you can go to San Candido by train, on which you can take your bike.

Cycle path from San Candido to Lienz

From San Candido you can go to the border. From Sillian you can cycle 44 km along the Drava River to Lienz. On the way back (uphill) is a train which you can board with your bicycle.

Downhill & Freeride to Riscone

If a "normal" ride sounds a bit dull for you and you fancy something more exciting, we recommend you try the "Herrnsteig" Downhill Trail to Plan de Corones. It covers 9 km with a change in level of 1,300 m, and involves ups and downs and parabolic curves, and much more besides. In addition to the classic route there are now also three other trails - try them to believe them! Suitable bicycles can be rented at the Outdoor Center in Plan de Corones.
